Messologhi is beside the sea in an area of outstanding beauty on the western side of the Greek mainland. It is steeped in history and is celebrated in poetry, music and painting.
Our small farm has been in our family for four generations. It is a small, simple and rustic grove of 220 olives trees. The humid climate and rich soil makes it ideal for growing olive trees.
EXTRA VIRGIN GREEK OLIVE OIL
PRODUCED AT OUR
FAMILY FARM IN MESSOLOGHI,
GREECE & BOTTLED IN IRELAND
Our methods are the simple and traditional ways that have been used for thousands of years. The trees are grown without the use of artificial fertilisers leading to small annual crops. The harvest takes place just as the olives are reaching their full ripeness. Generally this is between October and December depending on the weather.
Local farmers and friends come to help us. Standing on ladders we hit the branches with long staffs so that the olives will fall onto the large cloths spread beneath the tree. The olives are then collected and brought immediately to the local oil mill. Here the olives are pressed at a low temperature to produce extra virgin oil.
This is then shipped directly to Ireland and bottled for you here in Dalkey Co Dublin.
On our farm we grow only the Koroneiki variety of olive which produces oil that is golden green in colour. Our oil is never blended. Harvested by hand, it is made just as the olives are reaching their full ripeness.
This oil has a fresh fruity aroma, is low in acidity and has a taste that is fruity and spicy. In Greece we call this type of oil ‘agourelaio’. It is the perfect oil over salads fish cheeses and fresh bread.
